Our 2018 book on the Auster company and its aircraft has had exceptional sales and has now sold out.
The Books Publishing Committee (BPC) set the print run for this book based upon the sales of other similar titles, but he demand exceeded that anticipated. We are exploring doing a limited second impression. The decision on this will be based upon the cost of the reprint and anticipated demand. A further update will be made when the decision has been reached.

This is what happened with Chipmunk - the first 50 years and when it was fetching £ 70.00 on e-bay my offer to fund a re-print, so A-B Could not loose any money, was turned down flat. Don't hold your breath guys !!

Unfortunately there is a technical problem with the website and we are unable to upload the revised version, which will show it as unavailable.

To gauge the kind of interest for a 2nd print run,why not have a pre-order option on the book sales site with a deposit of GBP 5 which would be either returned if the print run didn't go ahead or deducted from the price.

Unfortunately this would be a difficult thing to administer, the way our sales site currently works. If (and hopefully when) a reprint is ordered, we will set up a mechanism to register interest.

A while back there was a second print run of Piper Aircraft by Roger Pepperell and the first 2 vols of the DC-3 books, which is how I got my copies. If this can be done for these, I cannot see why there should not be a second print run of the Auster book and hopefully I will get my copy then !!.
Given that almost all monographs published by Air-Britain over the last 10 years are still being advertised on the website, the Auster book must have had a much smaller print than these.

Your response shows why we are conservative with setting print-runs. Many of the titles over the past years are still in stock, which can mean the title makes a loss due to lack of sales.

Hello Steve.
There must have been special reasons why the Piper and DC-3 book had second print runs. They were the most expensive books Air-Britain have published, I'm sure I paid not far short £100 for them, even at members rates. For any book to sell out in four and a half months is bordering on a miracle, and surely deserves a second print run, perhaps another miracle !!!.

We are still trying to assess the economics of a new print run - both the number to be printed and the best price for the print run.
To help us assess demand, if you are likely to order a copy of Auster - The Company and its Aircraft, can you please send you details to Austerreprint@air-britain.co.uk and we will let you know when a decision is reached.

Air-Britain used to be like Airlife - just wait a while and the price would drop drastically. Maybe the BPC have got the numbers almost right this time.

This afternoon I replied using the link in the A-B newsletter (Austerreprint@air-britain.co.uk) to register an interest in the Auster book but it has bounced back saying (if I am reading it correctly) that my email looks like SPAM to BT...
Any suggestions on what to do now - I don't want to suggest people also express interest in a reprint on this forum as Admin will not know how many duplicated requests there are.

I will note your request - interesting that your message should bounce as I have received a number of requests already.

I think your reply is a little cynical. I think many A-B members order books at the full price. In my case I think I have paid the full price for all the books I have ordered for the last 10 years.I usually order my books twice a year, on my Birthday and Christmas. This year in May I ordered the 748 and FAA squadrons books, and for Christmas it would have been the Auster and Lancaster books, although my order has just gone in for the Lancaster book just to make sure.
I think the BPC has under-estimated the numbers, especially for non members, for a book to be sold out in 4 and a half months is highly unusual.
On another matter, would it be possible for the Sales people to let members know when a book is down to the last 100 copies.

I will pass your suggestion about stock levels across to the distribution team - maybe something that can be monitored for the newer publications. Unfortunately some of our older publications still have some way to go before reaching that number, which is why we try to be prudent on numbers in the print run. Just this time, we were over prudent!
