It’s a given that whenever a book is published, new data crops up! So, a couple of months ago, when looking for something quite different, I stumbled on the following in a file for Maritime Central Airways, which adds to the data on G-AGOB pages 204/205;
1952.06.23 Lancashire Aircraft/MCA. Bare hull charter rate £20 per hour plus £250 per month for all insurance. MCA responsible for all other charges including delivery.
1952.07.07 Propose lease of York G-AGOB from Lancashire Aircraft Corp, London, UK, to MCA for 2 or 3 months. As you know. MCA is engaged in an extensive air lift in connection with Operation “Pinetree”. Its own fleet of aircraft is insufficient to handle the volume of work within the time limits required by the contractors. G-AGOB leaving for Moncton on the 10th.
1952.07.25 DoT Memo. The British crew [no names given] of the [York] are presently qualifying for Canadian licences in the Moncton district office.
In the normal course of events the operation of a foreign aircraft commercially, wholly within Canada, would be precluded under the Air Regs. Since this operation would appear to be in the national interest, it is recommended that a waiver of the aforementioned provisions be sought under the authority vested in the Minister.
1952.07.29 Temporary authority for the operation of York C1 G-AGOB, cargo only, valid till 25.10.52; for Operation Pine Tree.
1952.10.29 G-AGOB departed Moncton this date for the UK.
