I wonder if any of you can help. I attended a summer camp with 1075 Sqn ATC (Camberley) in Sept. 1967 at RAF West Raynham. We all had air experience flights in a Chipmunk. I noted the serial of it as WG 549 but I'm certain this is a mistake, probably caused by my rewriting my notes a couple of times. There was another Chippy on the station which I my notes show as WG548, the two aircraft definately had consecutive numbers. Anyone got any idea what the correct ID of these two aircraft were?

Anglia Aeronews dated September 1967 reported Chipmunk WB549 as a visitor to West Raynham on 17th August 1967, but nothing relevent noted for September.

That sounds right David, it was late Aug or early Sept. A case of dodgy handwriting by my 14 year old self

Regards David I thought this might be the solution until I Googled WB549. This was the first Chipmunk built in UK and spent it's "military" career allocated to the Empire Test Pilot's School, never taken onto RAF strength so unlikely to be giving AEFs at West Raynham.

Sorry if I gave you false hope alanjohn. I've had another search of Anglia Aeronews for 1967, but the only thing that caught my eye was the fact that WB569 was used by 5 AEF from Cambridge at that time.
Good hunting

I can also confirm that WB569 / T was with 5AEF at Cambridge on 6-1-1968 as, looking at my A.T.C. Record of Service book now, I notice I did 27 mins in it on 6-1-1968.
I also note that I flew in Chipmunk '365 from Shawbury on 26-7-67
Chipmunk '744 from Cambridge on 23-9-67 5 AEF ? &
Chipmunk '858 from Ouston on 13-8-68 11AEF ??
Can anybody confirm the AEF's involved & any code's that may have been worn by these Chippie's at those times please?

The following snippet was extracted from Anglia Aeronews dated August 1968:
Northumberland UAS Chipmunks WB548, WD310, WG470, WP975, WZ849 and WZ858 were at West Raynham for four weeks prior to 26.7, leaving on that date for Ouston.
Sorry, no codes quoted.
