Before it gets lost forever, a correction sourced by Stig Jarlevik on another forum:
"A friend of mine in England (another Colin BTW) looked up the record card of 42-100701 for me and it is very clear that the Air Britain's DC-3 book Vol 2 is wrong. This is what the card says: 42-100701 departed Mobile for CBI 21.12.43, assigned 10th AF 20.12.43 and received by them 3.1.44. The next entry dated 23.3.44 says it was condemned 15.2.44."
This aircraft was one of three damaged beyund repair when hit by 62 Sqn Dakota FL505 which swung on take off at Comilla (now in Bangladesh). The other two were 42-100699 and 42-100706

Another thing, to which I was alerted on the TOCH forum, concerns 42-24067. The entry says: Crash 26Sep53 - Broken up 10Feb54 This aircraft did indeed crash on 26Sep53, as per: aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19530926-2However, as it crashed into the Pyrenees, I don't quite understand the "Broken up 10Feb54" bit!

No idea myself Andy but making a guess I would say the Spanish authorities were not too happy having a wreck in the mountains, so just maybe they ordered the USAF to get rid of it? So perhaps they had finished the job by 10 Feb? B Rgds Stig
