Most of the 'Strats' were built as USAF tankers and many ended their service with the various Air Guard units (half a century ago!) and an occasional public appearance

From Pan Am Historical Foundation "Shown just after climbing down from their nice, warm Clipper at McMurdo Sound is the crew that was on Pan Am's Antarctic flight. Kneeling are 2nd officer Earl Lemon, stewardess Pat Hepinstall, flght engineer George Coppin, and 2nd Officer Bob Finley. Standing are Captain Don McLennan, Purser John Bell, stewardess Ruth Kelly, flight engineer Al Loeffler, 1st Officer Roy Moungovan, and the aircraft commander, Captain Ralph Savory."
