As some may know Yak-3 ZK-YYY was badly damaged landing at Wanaka this year, here is my view of what happened. Yakovlev Yak-3 ZK-YYY takes off to open the show along with Yak-3 ZK-VVS ZK-YYY by wiltshirespotter, on Flickr The two then land back, ZK-VVS on the hard and YYY on the grass, during roll-out it collides with a cherry picker ZK-YYY by wiltshirespotter, on Flickr ZK-YYY by wiltshirespotter, on Flickr No injuries thankfully ZK-YYY by wiltshirespotter, on Flickr Here you can see the cherry picker on the right. These were to be used to sling up a target for sport aircraft to fly under later in the show ZK-YYY by wiltshirespotter, on Flickr Recovery ZK-YYY by wiltshirespotter, on Flickr ZK-YYY by wiltshirespotter, on Flickr Sadly this all caused a number of the acts to be cancelled in the morning flying display till everything was cleared away and all emergency services available again, including the RNZAF Seasprite which I was quite looking forward to!
