The correct date for the loss of Blenheim N6192 was 27 May 1940: "According to the official Air Ministry File into the incident (File AIR 81/628): "Blenheim N6192 assumed lost at sea off the coast of France, 27 May 1940. Sergeant J Mahoney, Sergeant W C H Paish and Sergeant H Warman: missing presumed dead".

Andy
That is also what it says in the combined volume L1000 - N9999. Actually: 107 Sq Missing (St Omert) 27.5.40 Probably a typo in the first stand alone N1000-N9999 issue.
This is also confirmed in Chorley's RAF Bomber Command losses 1939-1940 Only difference is he calls Mahoney a LAC

A word of advice:
Bill Chorley himself recognised that each volume of his Bomber Command series wasn't definitive or perfect, and helpfully provided pages of amendments in subsequent volumes.
I've worked as far as the corrections list in the 1945-47 volume, correcting by hand entries in the preceding books. Many pages are now covered in alterations. There are even corrections of corrections!
Bill Chorley was obviously doing the best he could with the material to hand at the time. His books were undoubtedly a huge aid to air force historians. This is not a criticism.
But beware: don't quote from or refer to the Bomber Command volumes without checking later ones for adjustments.
Also be aware also that the Aviation Safety Network website tends to rely on secondary sources (eg Jim Halley's RAF serials books).
Regards, Geoff

Hudson N7258 was lost on 12.4.40, not 30.4.40 as listed. Also confirmed in 233 Sqn ORB

Also as per the 233 Sqn ORB, N7241 and N7323 were both lost on 13.4.40 (FTR from mission to Stavanger)

Gladiator N5584 is listed as going to the Finnish AF on 1.10.40. This is too late, all 30 supplied entered service in Jan/Feb40. I suspect the correct date is 10.1.40, just like the other 29 (with serials ranging from N5683 to N5729) Plenty of information on Finnish Gladiators can be found at: surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/gladiator_finland.htmNote that the actual tie-ups between the RAF and Finnish serials seem to be unknown.

Hello Andy There is an article in Aeromilitaria Autumn 2009 about the Gauntlet and Gladiator in Finnish service. This seems to tie in RAF and Finnish serials for most of the Gladiators, unless I am reading it wrong. Kind regards John Taylor

Another Gladiator correction, concerning these two entries:
N5701 152/FF Shetlands/247 - crashed in forced landing, Werrington, Devon 27.8.40 N5901 FF Shetlands - lost 27.8.40
This should read: N5701 152 - stalled in the circuit at Sumburgh 22.12.39 (note: Fighter Flight Shetlands was not formed until Jan 40) N5901 FF Shetlands/247 - crashed in forced landing, Werrington, Devon 27.8.40

Andy
The date 1.10.1940 to Finland is changed in my booklet L1000 - N9999 to 10.1.1940
Also the same booklet has at least partly changed their story to what you say. It still insist N5701 had been transferred to FF Shetland when it had its accident. As per our Flying Training and Support Units since 1912, FF Shetland was formed 18 Dec 1939, so it seems N5701 just made it....
Cheers Stig
