Really very odd it is claimed the crew was with No 5 OTU at the time of the accident. It is far more realistic they were part of the OADU as listed in our books. Stig, Actually, I don't think that would be all that unusual. I am getting a little out of my depth, but it is very possible that crews were not actually posted to the OADU. On completion of their OTU course, they might simply have been detailed to report to location X and deliver an aircraft to location Y, at which point they would join their new squadron. Remember, the aircraft's assignment (which is what our books list) might be different to the crew's assignment. Andy

This also corrects the DH Dragon book, and many other sources.
After this was queried, I arranged to see the Casualty File AIR81/5072. The description has the wrong date! The incident did indeed take place on 10 February 1941. I have contacted TNA to get the file description amended.

The entry for Buffalo AS430 seems to be missing. The batch AS410 to AS437 are shown "for Admiralty", but cross-reference to "Fleet Air Arm Aircraft 1939 - 1945" shows that not all were used by the Navy. AS430 was lost on 22 Oct 40 while serving with the A&AEE, following a mid-air collision with Hampden P4354: discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C16687987
