Andy Missed out on this one. I don't think the aircraft was on its way to 242 Sq.
Once the decision was taken by either Jim or Air Britain (perhaps a combined decision?) that no MU etc should be included in the summaries, we end up just like this. I think everyone agrees, with hindsight, that was a mistake. Also to leave out dates was another mistake.
In this case 5 MU aircraft together with 55 OTU, who were in the area, intercepted a Ju 88 which they shot down. P/O Bird was either hit by return fire or collided with the 88.
