The first squadron for Spitfire R6922 should read 609, not 604, which was not a Spitfire squadron at that time.

The revised (1996 P-R) edition correctly stated that R6922 started with 609Sqn.
What's the value of posting corrections to books that were subsequently revised and effectively replaced?

The revised (1996 P-R) edition correctly stated that R6922 started with 609Sqn. What's the value of posting corrections to books that were subsequently revised and effectively replaced? Geoff I agree Geoff But if we dismiss all those who didn't have a gold spoon chucked into their mouths at birth and, my-oh-my, like me figured they couldn't afford to buy the second edition because, again like me, had "wasted" their money on the first edition, what do we do with all those idiots....? So why not, again being an idiot, why doesn't AB offer the corrections made between 1st edition and 2nd edition to members for a reduced price - or (horrible thought) free of charge? I belong to those who have bought basically every book AB has published on a historical level ever since I once joined, back in 1977 or so....well times fly.... but money has always been short funded and divided between family and other interests. Perhaps we should applause all the clever boys who didn't buy the first edition but waited for the second (or why not third?) to be published? Ever thought if that happened, there would be no sales for AB in the first place? Perhaps I, just like Andy, have to join every one who did like us, in the naughty corner? Silly idiots, buying the first edition (?), be clever man and wait for all the corrections to come out in the second one!! Sorry Geoff I understand your somewhat hasty reply, but please do consider that not everyone has all the money in the world capable of buying every second edition on the market, not even AB ones. So Andy Just keep it up!! I am right behind you Cheers Stig

Geoff The answer is quite simple Geoff. As I don't have a copy of the "new" one (I wasn't even aware there was one) I didn't know it had been corrected. Are you expecting me to go to the second-hand shop, check if there's been a new edition, and then buy a copy just in case there's been a correction? However, just to please you, I will stop posting any corrections to this volume. Let's just hope I don't spot any that weren't corrected in later editions....

Seems correct Andy
Gunby/Temple in their Vol 1 of Bomber losses in the ME/Med has the the same details. They add it was probably claimed by a 412Sq CR.42

Not much to say without access to the AM 78 form
However both statements can be correct. No 9 Ferry Pilots Pool was disbanded 31 Jan 1941 and since that was the last unit recorded I would say the crash date etc seems genuine. (Not even Colin Cummins has this aircraft listed) However the wreckage could have lingered on somewhere until discarded to some local scrap dealer in 1949
If Steve is kind enough to produce the AM 78 form I think we will be at least a little bit wiser
Guests are soon coming, so I am off to do the food for tonight Happy New Year everyone!!
Cheers Stig

I haven't looked at the discovery file, but my casualty notes include.
23.1.41 39707 Flt Lt (Plt) Dennis Brian Brooks, RAF, 9FPP. Died of injuries received when Anson R3399 crashed in forced landing at Southport after running short of fuel while being ferried from Carlisle to Hawarden. Prescot Cemetery, Manchester Rd, Lancashire. Sec O, CofE, grave 617.
Of course, this does not mean that it was not later sold for scrap.
