I often pick up snippets from postings on other forums. The word on the street (multiple online sources) is that Halifax EB147 was lost over Poland on the night of 4/5 Aug 44 whilst with 148 Sqn.
The book says missing from SOE mission with 624 Sqn 8 Aug 43....

....and so does the Halifax File! It seems the author R.N. Roberts just copied Jim's listings.
However Colin Cummins in Though Without Anger got it right. It was a terrible night for 148 Sq....

Liberator EW306 of 53 Sqn was lost on 31 Jul 44, not 1945 as published. The four crew who died are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.

Also, Liberator EV895 of 53 Sqn was lost on 18 Nov 44, not 18 Jul 44 as published. Details are in "United in Effort".
The entire crew is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.

Well spotted Andy
Both dates are correctly listed in our Liberator book (in RAF and Commonwealth service)

Spitfire V EP339 is shown as "Shot down by own AA, Vittorio, Malta, 27.8.42" The entry should read "Shot down by AA, Vittoria, Sicily, 27.8.42" Some background here:

Bf109 ES906 was a Bf109F-2, not an F-1 as listed. WNr. was 12764

Perusal of Bernard Gloux' interesting article about locust-hunting threw up an anomaly regarding Anson EF886: article: crash landed 6 Jun 45 EA100-EA999: crashlanded 12 Jun 45 Anson file: crash landed 15 Jun 45 So, three different dates quoted. Which is correct?

Andy You will probably not believe this, but when checking Colin Cummings' The Price of Peace he lists 22 June 1945! Since nobody was hurt in the accident, I have to admit I think it's rather funny. Four dates but all are at least in June and in 1945, so I think we can be pretty sure about the month.....and the year..... For what it's worth here is what Colin says 22-Jun-45 EF886 Anson I A-L Flt 1 mile south of Isioti Kenya Immediately after take-off, with the aircraft climbing through 200 feet, the port engine failed. The pilot could not maintain height and so made a wheels up crash landing straight ahead. Cheers Stig

Unfortunately the record card does not throw any clarification on this, although the SOC date is July 1945 which sort of agrees with the June crash date(s)

I asked on RAF Commands. The F1180 confirms that the date was 22 Jun 45.

Thanks Andy
Nice to see Colin got it right. This of course begs the question why three others (Bernard, Jim and Ray) got their dates wrong? Since I have never seen a form 1180 I have no idea if they are handwritten or not. If they are as hard to read as many (most?) of the AM 78s anyone is in fact excused for misreading what they say....
