Andy
Not sure where in the RAF WA100 - WZ999 you are looking? My issue is from 1983.
My booklet says WE409 to RNZAF 21.3.57 WE420 to RNZAF 3.12.56
It states nothing with regard to their final ends in NZ service
The delivery date you quote for WE420 was to RAF and not to NZ From an Australian site listing also NZ aircraft, no transfer date is given for any of the above, so the dates by Jim could well be correct.
With regard to WE409 the same site says it was with 14 RNZAF in May 1957, which fits quite nicely with Jim's info.
Cheers Stig

Stig, Second edition (2003). The 14 Sqn RNZAF aircraft were only loaned from the RAF, so I don't really get your last point about "fitting in with Jim's info". Andy

Andy Seems I missed out on this Andy, sorry about that. From the quoted site this is what they say WE409 Delivered 17 September 1953. With No.118 Squadron RAF. To No.14 Squadron, Tengah, Singapore in May 1957. Aircraft hired from RAF for anti-terrorism operations during the Malayan Emergency. Coded "R later I". Squadron strength of 16 aircraft was comprised of various aircraft at different times from 1955-1958. In service with 14 Squadron from May 1957 until July 1957. (Jim said del 21.3.1957)Struck problems while being flown by Flying Officer Geoff Hubbard on 03 July 1957 when it entered an inverted spin from which he could not recover. Pilot ejected successfully and the aircraft was SOC on 10 July 1957. WE420 Delivered 23 October 1953. With No.145 Squadron RAF. To No. 14 Squadron, Tengah, Singapore. Aircraft hired from RAF for anti-terrorism operations during the Malayan Emergency. Coded "J". Squadron strength of 16 aircraft was comprised of various aircraft at different times from 1955-1958. In service with 14 Squadron from December 1956 until May 1957. (Jim said del 3.12.1956)Flying Officer Trevor Bland experienced a large overspeed on take off from Bangkok during an exercise on 30 May 1957. The takeoff was abandoned and the aircraft entered a large ditch suffering major damage and being written off. That was what I ment with "fits quite nicely with Jim's info" Cheers Stig

As per the AM78, the incident to CFS Vampire FB.5 WA424 took place on 2 0.4.53, not 20.6.53. Hi Andy What DID happen to WA424? It is not listed by Halley in his Broken Wings and neither has Colin Cummings discovered it in his Last take-off (Losses 1950-53) Incidentally in my booklet Halley only lists a SOC date, 22.6.53 Cheers Stig

Vampire WA450 did indeed go to Woking ATC, which was 1349 Sqn Hi again Andy With my issue of WA100-WZ999 this makes no sense I'm afraid I have WA450 as 185/3 CAACU/3/4 CAACU to 7634M Can you please advise what it says in your issue? Also what was Woking ATC? All I can find for this acronym is the obvious Air Traffic Control and the much less obvious Armament Training Camp, none of which makes much sense to me, unfortunately. Also please explain what 1349 Sq was and how it can be the same as Woking ATC Thanks Stig

Stig, It was an Air Training Corps squadron. The second edition says exactly the same as yours with additional text (shown in bold), ie 185/3 CAACU/3/4 CAACU to 7634M 24.5.60 at 349 Sqn ATC, Woking As I mentioned, this should have read 1349 Sqn ATC. The squadron still exists today: Andy

Thanks Andy
These ATC Sqns are obviously nothing which are in the regular books. Can't find any mentioning of them even in our own Flying Training and Support Units since 1912, in spite of mentioned in that books acronyms. I actually only checked an acronym list I had downloaded from a RAF site. Checking the site you give, it seems to be a huge organization so why isn't it given at least a mentioning in the above book?
Cheers Stig
