After a much longer gestation than we desired, we are pleased to finally announce that the first stage of the new Air-Britain Digital Archive is now live, as one of the main headings on our web page – Air-Britain.com
The intention is to bring together all the relevant digital files that are currently hosted across various places within Air-Britain – AB-IX, the Message Board, Researchers Corner and the website Members Area – into one structure with easy paths to each of the files.
We have seven distinct groups within the Digital Archive • Aircraft Production Lists • Airlines and their fleets • Airports and Airfields • Civil Aircraft Registers • Military Aviation • Museums and Wrecks and Relics • Air-Britain Publications Within each group there will be a number of files made available by our members, some of which are available for the public while others are only accessible by members. Each file is in the format chosen by the originator. One major addition is a full set of high-quality scans of our Archive and Aeromilitaria magazines.
This initial selection will be added to as we transfer more files from the existing locations, but we also look forward to additional resources being forwarded to us for inclusion. Thank you to the small team who have helped with the development, some of whom will be responsible for further additions – Phil Gibson, Phil Kemp, Andy Marden, Brian Matthews, Geoff Negus, Paul Reynolds and Robert Swan. Direct links for each section co-ordinator will be added shortly.
We welcome comments on this new service, either through this thread on our Message Board or to steve.mitchell@air-britain.com

Agree re the Great Job! The first two links above are around 317mb & >1Gb so patience is required but when finished, you get a message 'Failed to Load' Your other two links say "Failed - No file" But since this area of the site is a work in progress, we may be trying too quickly?

Great to see the archive arrive at last. Would it be possible to add a column to indicate file size, would help perhaps to understand download problems with bigger files as above if we know in advance? Would it be possible to say something about how we may contribute additional material, where or who to offer it to, again here file size may be a problem and using a service such as dropbox may be the way to go?

Looks really good, and will encourage non-members to join when they can see what is available to members. Did a quick download to see if that worked, and it did.
Thanks Geoff

Apologies for the delay in responding to what seem to be favourable comments. Fitting of new windows near my PC meant it was draughty, noisy and sometimes potentially damp nearby! This response may also be impacted by the effect of fumes from the sealant / solvent used at the end of the fitting. Regarding the four files which could not be accessed by Ruud, I had the same problem with Archive 2014 but Archive 2015 opened straight up. I suspect the two register files are a problem with the names, as Barbados is 8P, not BP, while the original TL file did not include the country name. All will be fed back for investigation and correction. Pete's suggestion of including file sizes is a good one, so we will get those added to the relevant pages in the next few days. We have various people who will look after each area and we will share that soon, with contact details on the relevant page. There are two work threads here - the transfer of existing files from other areas on the web and the gathering of new files. The use of Dropbox or WeTransfer is possible for larger files. One issue we have is that some of the existing files are old and attempts to contact the original author has not been possible. We need to find out if there is an updated file and if permission to make the file public is to be given. We will take time to hear more comments and then will share details of new uploads here and on AB-IX, probably in batches rather than drip-feed. Steve M

Both register files will now be available - as surmised, both were the victims of typos in the file name.
We will be uploading the Archive 2014 file again, but the 2015 file is OK, just extremely large.

Thanks, Steve!
I was able to download the two registers, as well as the Archive 2015 file. I was not able to download the Archive 2015 file yesterday using either Edge or Chrome, but today it loaded very fast in Edge.

Steve M Still unable to download Archive 2015 - I have tried with Edge, Chrome and Firefox on two different computers, but no luck. Could this file be split in half (it's a pdf, so should be easy)

The latest additions to the Digital Archive are now up on the website - the attached index shows the newest items in red. These are a mixture of new and updated files, along with others that have just been moved from their previous location. We are always looking for new items to include, from any of our members, so please use the contact points to share what you have. We also have a small issue with the files on AB-IX. When we moved from Yahoo to Groups.IO many of them had my name put alongside them, just because I organised the transfer. If you recognise any of the items as yours, please let the team know so we can get them transferred as well. Regards Steve M Digital Archive Index 2021 09.doc (118.5 KB)
