LAKENHEATH SPOTTERS
Just a heads up and I'd appreciate it if you could share this to other groups too - today (15/7/21) whilst parked at RAF Lakenheath by the forest entrance, the Suffolk police arrived and asked us to, in future, move our vehicles to another location. They advised that we "spread the word" that there is to be NO PARKING by the forest entrance anymore, FULL STOP. As described by the very kind and polite officer, "the entire road (A1065) from Brandon to Mildenhall is a no stop zone, shown by a solid line (do not cross) at the side of the road". Due to the imminent arrival of the F35As and the crowds that they will undoubtedly bring in, the police will be working with the USAF to clamp down on illegal parking over the next few months to prevent things getting out of hand in the future. Spotters are still allowed to stand anywhere they wish, but there is to be no parking ANYWHERE other than the spotters car park or a designated and marked layby (the forest entrance "car park" is sadly not an example of this, however the 06 end layby is). Although fines and the like were not mentioned, I am sure that the spotting community as a whole would be extremely grateful if we would each abide by these rules, in order to prevent any ramifications on our spotting at RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall in the future.
