Sadly another old A-B stalwart has passed on.
Peter Campbell was born in 1937 and, being educated at Lancing College, overlooking Shoreham Airport, became interested in aircraft from an early age. Later, joining Air-Britain he was a regular supplier of light aircraft news to BCAN having moved to live close to Fairoaks in particular. He was also co-editor of our Airport Movements Review from January 1963 and continued when it was absorbed into Digest until passing the baton to Don Conway later in 1964.
In 1997 he self-published a series of softbacks starting with Tails Of The Fifties, followed by four more in a similar vein. Not content with simply writing, he started that same year organising a Fly-in at Old Sarum called Great Vintage Flying Weekend (or G-VFWE as it became known for short) followed by several more at different locations – he always claimed that we had inspired this approach with our own moveable A-B Fly-Ins – such as White Waltham, Kemble, Thruxton, Wroughton, etc.
In recent years, his health had been failing and he moved into a care home, where he peacefully died in March. — Bernard Martin
