Micky
our (AB) complete SX- register in archive says it was destroyed on the ground at Athens/Menidi by the Luftwaffe 4/41, would be interesting to date this image? Also confirms the pi of G-ADAD. (Archive 1981 page 61 and photo page 62)

This is what I have on this aircraft:
1/1 Regd G-ADAD [CofR 5474] 29.11.34 to Heston Aircraft Co Ltd, Heston. Ff 18.8.35. CofA 5161 issued 1.10.35. Regn cld 9.36 as sold abroad (with CofA renewed 27.8.36). Flown by Grp Capt Efstratios Xydes [Xidi?] to Athens 29.8.36-1.9.36. Regd SX-AAH [CofR 11] 29.10.36 to above. Destroyed on ground Athens/Menidi 4.41 by Luftwaffe.
Can also confirm that it is Menidi and not Meridi as on the photo.

Hi all
The Greek data for SX-AAH come from researches in the records of YPA in 1982-83. There is a wealth of additional detail in the entries for each of the pre-war aircraft, but it is written in Katharevousa (an antique literary form of Greek) in a highly-stylised italic script and I couldn't read any more than the basic details. We need a fluent Greek speaker with knowledge of Katharevousa to have a look at the original register book which is still held by YPA at Hellinikon.

(Archive 1981 page 61 and photo page 62) The same dealer also had a shot of 2 damaged Greek Blenheims at Athens...suggests the airfield was taken without too much destruction so maybe the airframes including the Phoenix lingered a while before scrapping?

I suggest that this photo was taken between 27 April 1941, when the Germans entered Athens, and around 2 May. On 2 May at least one photo was taken by Italian personnel at Athens of Blenheim L1388. The tail on the left-hand side of the image is that of a Blenheim, but I can tell from the damage that it isn't L1388. Geoffrey Negus
