It is with regret that I pay my final tribute to Cliff Hodgson (member 01432) of Preston, Lancs, who I first met in the viewing area at Squire’s Gate in June 1963. He would arrive on a motorcycle, carrying a Shorrock VHF, and was always an enthusiastic mine of interesting aeronautical information. This I was able to tap into to fuel my own developing interest, my part of the bargain being to supply Lightning news from my home base of Leconfield—he then being the Air-Britain specialist on that aircraft.
Regular letters from Cliff were always informative and I think it would be accurate to say that he was my first ‘gen’ correspondent. For the later development of my career, I owe him a lot.
