Can someone with the K-File please tell me what it says for Spitfire K9894? My old K1000 - K9999 book seems to be completely wrong. It has: "CFS/64/57 OTU hit hill in cloud, Ruabon near Wrexham 3.7.41" "FF 9-3-39 54Sq 13-3-39 152Sq 2-1-40 GAL 58OTU 1-1-41 u/c collapse landing Sealand 12-5-41 ros 57OTU CGS 9-7-41 DeH 18-8-42 57OTU 13-6-43 RAF Medical Rehabilitation Loughborough 26-4-44 to 4868M SOC 29-8-46" So a bit of a difference!

Sure Andy
It is basically pretty much the same as you quote from the Spitfire site (even if it has no f/f data) It differs in detail and has more added MU/OTU data as follows a) 6MU 11.11.40 b) 45MU 4.6.41 c) it has not ros 57OTU d) DH 19/8 (not 18/8) e) 8MU 2.12.42 f) 61OTU 23.3.43 g) to 4868M at Loughborough 26.8.44 h) SOC 9.8.46
Since you yourself has seen loads of AM form 78s some of the date differences can probably be because of the difficulty in reading them exactly. I have no explanation for all the added MU/OTU data without actually seeing this card in question
You can always ask Simon for a copy
Cheers Stig

Stig, Thanks. As you now know, the version you lay out is basically confirmed by the AM78, although the final strike date should read 29.8.46 as per the Spitfire site. Andy

Wellesley K7774 is listed in the K-file as being with 47 Sqn when it was lost on 22.10.40. There is nothing on the AM78 to confirm this, and the TNA Casualty File would seem to indicate that it was still serving with 223 Sqn when lost: discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C16687982

Bulldog K2479 is shown as with 3 Sqn; to ME 10.10.35; SOC 4.2.36. On Page 175 of "Truculent Tribes" there is a photo of a very bent looking (and upside-down) Bulldog on which K2___ can be made out under the wing. The caption says (with regard to 3 Sqn) "There were several accidents to Bulldogs including K2479 in January 1936". So it seems very likely that the strike of this aircraft was as a result of the incident pictured.

Small update on Gordon K2734, reported as "47 Sqn; overshot landing and hit railway line; tipped up Khartoum 24.8.37" On Page 69 of the 47 Sqn history "Under Their Own Flag" (Owen Clark, Fighting High, 2016) there is a photo of what is clearly this incident. The aircraft was coded P.

Wellesley K7715 is shown as "47 Sqn 11.40; SOC 12.4.41" "Under Their Own Flag" records that it was flown by P/O Kennedy on 25 March 1941 when it was intercepted by two CR.42s. One of the crew was mortally wounded, and the aircraft crash-landed back at base. The RAF Command forum shows: www.rafcommands.com/database/serials/details.php?uniq=K7715As it happens, there are IWM pictures showing the aftermath: www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205208741although only code KU-H is visible, not the serial. Interestingly, the ORB shows serial L2712 for Kennedy's aircraft, clearly incorrect as it is listed again departing with another crew less than 3 hours later (it was actually lost on 12 Nov 41).

Some additional info on K6200. Listed as NR-N of 220 Sqn, then ..."Martin Hearn 13.11.39". This incident on 28 September 1939 will have been the cause of its transfer to a repair depot: https://www.yorkshire-aircraft.co.uk...k39/k6200.html The ORB (which confirms code NR-N) says:
"Anson K6200, while engaged in local circuits and landings at night, overshot on the first landing, crashing through the aerodrome boundary hedge, with resultant damage to the aircraft. The aircraft touched down at 65 knots but the application of full brake failed to arrest its progress. This failure was attributed to the dampness of the grass. Pilot SERGEANT PILOT 564819 HOLBECHE P No injuries No fire"
The pilot's correct initial was D, maybe just poor writing in the ORB.
