Sadly I have to inform the group that Richard (Dick) Hill passed away on Saturday 27 May after putting a brave fight up till the end
Richard was one of the longest serving members and it was him who introduced me to Air-Britain and it was him got me started on researching/history side of spotting.
Richard was also an Air-Britain specialist & also worked on publications too
I knew Dick for over 40+ years we met over a pint and a game of darts in the Windsor lad and soon become good friends in fact we both had sons the same week and we both called them Matthew/Mathew .
Richard went on to be my best man twice & Godfather to my daughter.
We spent many an hour spotting together, living in Windsor popping back to LHR in the evening even though he worked there all day he rarely missed an aircraft going into the row. After Richard retired, we used to go out once or twice a week mainly to Luton or Stansted. I would drive pick him up 6am and drive to our destination, he would fall asleep and wake up just as we arrived and the same on the return bearing in mind, I had just done a night shift, they were good memories.
Richard would always pop round the corner to my place of work on a Friday night to get his hot bread and cakes & Peter Hillman would pop over to and aircraft was always the conversation.(The good old days)
I moved away from Windsor 15 years ago Richard and I stilled stayed in touch by phone once a week or when i visited family back in Windsor popped in to see him and Nicky,
Richard you were the BEST friend anyone could have had.
RIP Richard you are at peace now and will be sadly missed
