Following the blocking of the Civil-Spotters e-mail group on Google Groups, there were discussions and suggestions on what could be done. A couple of weeks ago I proposed to the Directors that Air-Britain could sponsor the creation of a new iteration on Groups.IO – the same platform that we use for AB-IX. I am pleased to say that a majority supported this, recognising that a number of our own members found this a useful resource. Indeed it also serves as an information source for some of our magazine editors.
I worked together with Paul and Jan to advise on set-up from our own experiences and they have today released the message below on the Civil-Spotters Facebook page and I have repeated it on our own Facebook page.
Air-Britain is mentioned on the home page as well as the footer on individual messages and we will have exclusive access to publicise our products, while other commercial adverts will be banned. Other than that, we will not have any control on the group, so that it can remain an independent resource for the wider spotting community.
Please spread the word so that previous members of the group who may not see Facebook get to hear about the revival.

The Civil-Spotters mailing list has been resurrected!
With the kind sponsorship of Air-Britain we have set up a new list at
civil-spotters@groups.io
which we hope will operate in just the same way as previous iterations. Hopefully former members of the list who subsequently joined the CAE group on Facebook will join us by taking up membership of the new list and assist us in returning it to being the successful medium that it has been for the last thirty years! This should be the way to overcome the problems that we experienced with Google Groups.
To start the joining process please send a blank email to
civil-spotters+subscribe@groups.io
You will then receive an email back to which you should respond to confirm your application. The list owners will do their utmost to approve your membership as soon as they can but please keep in mind that it will be quite a busy time for us so you might have to be patient. The Groups.io environment will be a new one for most of us and we will all be feeling our way around while we familiarise ourselves. If you have questions feel free to ask (civil-spotters+owner@groups.io) but be prepared for a delayed reaction!
We should like to thank Air-Britain for their kind co-operation and assistance in this venture.
