P250, the VC-121A has it's last three digits on the nosewheel door....looks like (48-0)608 or '609....might be readable on the original photo or neg P233 That is indeed my shot ot S -61 G-BFFJ but it's at St Mary's Isles of Scilly 21JUN2010 ....seems to have acquired the caption of Chris England's ABPIC of same helicopter

The original scan is not good enough, as I discovered when writing the caption. The first digit is 6 or 8; the other two could be anything. Sorry for the wrong date for the S-61.

Paul...with the likely options being '608 and '609 we'll never be sure.....it was the location I noticed rather than the date of the S-61 pic...was the only time I flew in an S-61, felt like you were inside one of the engines!

Noticed a typo in the excellent Brantly article by Peter Davis. Page 267, second main paragraph, the reference to G-ARVY being at Middle Wallop on 7th July should refer to G-ARVX. I I have a photo of RVX which was parked on display in a hangar next to Hughes G-ASBL on that day.

A couple of points on this issue:
1) The photo of Vampire WA332 on page 264 must have taken in 1958/9 as there is a Shackleton 3 of what looks like 201 squadron in the background.
2) On page 239, the crash of PB4Y-1, BuNo 38753, occurred on 24 August 1944, not 24 June.

Since the "typo" refers to both the aircraft at Yeovilton's Air Day 30 June and at Middle Wallop on the 7th can you (or Peter) confirm if it was G-ARVY at Yeovilton and G-ARVX at Middle Wallop or if G-ARVX was at both places? Cheers Stig

Sorry for the late reply, Stig, I have been in Canada over Christmas. I have checked back in my log for 1962 and noticed that I made a mistake, The Brantly at Middle Wallop on 7/7/62 was G-ARYX.. I was confused because I also saw Hiller G-ARXV there as well. I have a photo of G-ARYX in the hangar display on that date. Sorry about the confusion.
Regards
Tony

Now I am really confused Tony
What I am actually interested in is which aircraft was demonstrated together with the Hughes 269 to the British Army at Middle Wallop.
Article says G-ARVY was demonstrated at Yeovilton's Air Day June 1962. Yes or no? G-ARVY was demonstrated at Middle Wallop (painted olive green) July 1962. Yes or no?
You say G-ARYX was at Middle Wallop 7.7.1962. Was that the one demonstrated to the Army painted olive green? Does that mean that G-ARVY was not at Middle Wallop at all, or does it just mean you didn't see it?
Cheers (and Happy New Year!) Stig
