Milton Keynes Aviation Society presents a talk by Mike Napier on Tornado Combat OperationsThe Tornado GR1/4 was in frontline service with the RAF for 37 years, of which 28 years was spent in almost continuous combat operations over the Middle East, Balkans, North Africa and Afghanistan. Former Tornado pilot Michael Napier, who has written four books about the aircraft, will present a history of the Tornado GR1/4. After briefly describing its role in the Cold War, the talk will cover the Gulf War of 1991, Operations in the No Fly Zones over northern and southern Iraq between 1992 and 2002, the Kosovo campaign of 1999, the Iraq War of 2003, the insurgency in Iraq between 2003 and 2009, Afghanistan between 2009 and 2014, Libya in 2011 and Iraq/Syria between 2014 and 2019. The talk will last approximately an hour and will be illustrated by numerous photographs as well as three video clips which show ultra-low flying on Exercise Red Flag in the USA, a typical sortie over the No Fly Zone in southern Iraq in the early 1990s and footage of laser guided weapons during airstrikes in southern Iraq in which Michael participated during January 1993.
