RCAF Centennial Honoured With Special Publication
In recognition of the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Canadian Aviation Historical Society has published a special edition of its CAHS Journal. At 54 pages, which is larger than usual, the publication contains articles, illustrations and abundant photographs for this full-colour publication.
The cover shows aircraft flown by the RCAF over the past century in original illustrations created by managing editor, Terry Higgins. The impressive edition was curated by guest editor, Richard Mayne, Director of History and Heritage of the RCAF.
Since 1963, the CAHS Journal has been Canada’s premiere publication of Canadian aviation history. “Stories of the RCAF have been told in our Journal for over 60 years,” says CAHS president Gary Williams. “With an extra issue dedicated entirely to air force service, we have recognized the history and accomplishments of the RCAF in a permanent contribution to the written record. As well, subjects dealing with aspects of the air force will be presented by speakers at our annual convention.”
Editor Higgins, who serves also as creative director states, “The content in this centennial publication provides a range of subjects from heraldry to museum objects and RCAF historiography, as well as stories of notable RCAF personalities.”
Content has been contributed by writers with extensive RCAF experience and association – Major (Retired) Mathias Joost, LCol Paul Johnston, Dr. Richard Mayne, and Dr. Richard Goette, associate editor of Airforce magazine. The Journal’s lead article, by Brittany Dunn, is a colourful illustrated history of all badges ever used by the RCAF.
