We believe that Pocketmags have implemented this to prevent magazine piracy, whereby people were downloading all the pages, and then making them available for free on the internet.
We will not be making eABN available as a PDF for exactly the same reasons. Once a PDF is in the wild, there is nothing to stop copying, which would hurt what revenue we get from Pocketmags. Only yesterday we were informed of somebody trying to sell a pdf version of one of our magazines through eBay.
We have spoken about the search facility before - basically the standard search will find "normal" words, but not anything specialised like a registration. This is another drawback of Pocketmags.
If anybody is aware of an alternative to Pocketmags, that remains secure and protects Air-Britain, then please let us know.

While I understand some of the reasons, for an aviation society that promotes its research, I don't think Pocketmags is the way. Other societies appear to manage OK and they are likely to suffer from the same problems. Are there any plans to bring out further past ABNs on DVD (or download) as none appear to have been produced since the 2008 editions? Surely Air-Britain has to be discussing or reviewing the way forward in this electronic age?

We are looking at producing further magazine CDs, but the normal problem arises - too few people doing too many jobs to be able to cover everything that we would like to do. The preparation of the files for the magazines currently has a lower priority than producing the various annuals and other publications.
As per the previous response, if somebody knows of an alternative to pocketmags, we would like to hear about it.

Have you looked at issuu.com ?
While this may work for current editions, would the archive not be a better location for older editions?

Thanks - the suggestion has been passed on to those involved in producing eABN

Hello
I notice there is a copy of the July 2019 issue of ABN on the website in PDF format. Is this format that is sent to Pocketmags, and they convert it to their own format.
If that is the case do A-B have all the ABNs in this format somewhere ?

From a point in time, we have printer-copy pdfs of ABN. There needs to be a little bit of work to convert those to normal presentation, taking off the printer marks at the edges of the pages. This is underway, but lower priority to production of our annuals and other books, as well as preparing current issues of ABN
