I get ABN ever month on my iPad from Pocketmags. Every month the text comes out in a red font. I report it to Pocketmags and they tell me to delete it and download load again. This usually doesn’t work so I get back to them. They then say that it was sent to them by the publishers in the wrong format. They say that they get onto the publishers to send in the correct format. After that it is alright.
My question is do the editorial team of ABN know about this problem I have. Also have other people have had this problem.
Regards

I had a message from Pocketmags late this afternoon saying they had fixed problem. I deleted the earlier download and then downloaded again as instructed. Fine now. I will see what happens next month.😟

Paul - we are going to try a different method of loading eABN in October - going via PocketMags rather than direct. We will see if that resolves the problem.

The red lines have occurred frequently for some time. Both my last two downloads are in red. So who do I approach for a fix?

To fix this problem you will have to delete the mag and then download again.
To do this click on library option on bottom line. Click on dustbin icon on top line. Click onto issue you wish to delete. Then done. Comes up Archive item yes or no. Click on yes. You can now download load the mag again and this should be correct version.
I was beginning to think that I was the only person who was having this problem. Hopefully in the future this will not occur again.

There is a problem with the page sizing on the February 2020 edition of ABN in Pocketmags. I tried to print out two pages and every time it comes up as three pages for printing with the third page having the page number of the second page at the top. Could this be fixed please?

The response has come back, with confirmation that there is nothing different to the load this month to any previous edition. It is therefore likely to be down to your own settings.
It’s one of the choices that Pocketmags gives you, along with increase the magnification, decrease it, page forward, page back and refresh. The other choices (it is a panel down the right hand side on an iMac) are multiple page view, share (facebook, twitter and email, you can send the link to the magazine, not the mag itself), and display help.
We have done a small test and if you keep the scale at 77% you can get a page on a sheet of A4 (this overcomes the pre-set scale). 78% puts the page number right on the bottom trim (too close for most printers), and 79% takes it over.
Hope that helps

Well, something somewhere has changed as it never did this with any of the other previous issues. However, I have now tried it with the Jan eABN and it now does this with that edition, which it didn't last month. I haven't made any changes at my end and it doesn't do it with another enthusiast publication I subscribe to with Pocketmags (I have just checked again). So, if it isn't yourselves that have changed anything, then Pocketmags themselves have. I have also been in contact with them and sent them screenshots of the issue.
Thanks for the comments about sizing, and I had already found that after I sent my initial post. Would like to know why I have to set 77% for eABN, though, when I can use 100% for other magazines.

The sizing issue is probably around the fact that ABN is an unusual page size - not A4 or A5. The page size is historic and has been that for many years.

I see Pocketmags have now placed a restriction on eABN (and I presume all of the magazines they host) of only being able to print 8 pages per day per issue. Even these pages are not now true PDF as they appear to be a screen shot of the page and the text is no longer searchable. This is a very backward step by Pocketmags for the following reasons:
1. It means that there is now no method to store a copy of ABN in full searchable PDF should Pocketmags go out of business, making it impossible to look back at older copies purchased. 2. Although there is a "search facility" it does not work properly (unlike having a fully searchable PDF). Taking the April 2023 AB-News as an example, it is not possible to search for some registrations, yet others can be found. For example search for G-BVRA (which is at the bottom of column 1 page APR541) does not show in "Search this issue" and "Search all issues" does not mention Apr 2023 although it is shown for July 2022, June 2017 and September 2020 (in that order from top to bottom!). Search G-RNER and the entry on page APR.536 is found, but not the entry on page APR.647. Do a "Search all issues" for G-RNER and the order that comes out for the various magazines is all over the place. (I have been in discussion with another eABN subscriber who has found similar issues). 3. There is no search facility available if using the Pocketmags App on my phone or tablet. I have to go to a web page (again, not helpful). 4. If there is no internet connection, it is impossible to read AB News as there is no way to even download a copy (even Readly allows a copy to be downloaded for this purpose, although it does not allow saving in PDF).
So, can Air Britain not come into line with other societies and produce a fully searchable PDF for members rather than the poor system that Pocketmags now has? Scramble moved away from Pocketmags a while back and while it may not be a full magazine now, you can at least print to PDF the various sections should you want as a subscriber (and they are searchable).
